When it comes to surf fishing or boat fishing, both require different gear and a different mind set but both are a lot of fun. Both can be highly rewarding in their own special way. I've found Surf Fishing to be a more tranquil time, where I get to enjoy nature and is normally done alone or with 1 or 2 people. Boat Fishing normally involves a few more people and a different style of fishing. Both are equally rewarding and I'm lucky to have done both quite a bit. In this article, I just wanted to cover a few things that you would be looking at if you were just learning how to get into either.

Surf Fishing- It's a great way to get into fishing in the ocean. I started out by using clams as bait and fishing off the shores of Manomet Mass. I may have gotten 5 fish all summer but as a beginner, I couldn't have asked for more. As I learned more and more as time went on, the amount of fish I caught went up as well. Surf Casting is quite popular around the coast in New England and can be used to catch multiple species. The most popular being Striped Bass and Blue Fish. guaranteed to give you a fantastic fight and uncontrollable excitement when you find a school breaking off the beach. Check in to your local tackle shop and ask them where to start. They will point you in the right direction and get you set up with the basics. Remember, they want you to catch fish and have a good time. That will make you come back and spend more money at their shop.

Boat Fishing- Clearly you will need some type of boat... If you don't have one yet, chartering a fishing boat is your best boat to see what your missing. You can learn a lot from a captain in your home waters. They won't give away all their secrets but you can pick up certain tactics that you can then utilize on your own. Along with Surf Fishing; it's an art. Besides having to navigate rocky shores, sandbars and other boaters, the captain of the boat needs to set a drift and anchor the right way to get you over the picky fish. Experienced Captains can utilize their electronics and the weather to get you into some species of fish right away. Fishing from a boat gives you a large advantage in catching multiple species of fish. Make sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. It tends to be a little windier on the boat and it cools you down so you forget that your actually getting burnt by the sun.

Surf Fishing or Boat Fishing can both give you great results. With the proper gear and guidance you to can become succesful in short time. Either way, they are both great ways to spend time with friends and family or simply by yourself.
